Why the name “Barbee Lyfe”?

To me, Barbee is a name that implies the ability to transform into a different character, or dress up in a way that allows you to adapt better to a different situation. When I was growing up I was always a bit of a tomboy, especially in the way I dressed. At an early age my parents enrolled me in activities that required me to be more feminine (Beauty Pageants and Cheerleading for example). Surprisingly, I enjoyed these activities and I loved getting “Dolled up.” My Guy Friends would joke around and call me Barbie when the would see my transformation from everyday Tom Boy to beautiful Girly-girl.

As I became an adult the nickname returned, probably because in my early 20s I had long blonde hair and drove a pink convertible, but I embraced it and it became the official name of my alter ego. My fun party girl side. That person within you who is always confident and ready to have a good time. She is the life of the party. Barbie (the doll) can be anything she wants. There is Doctor Barbie, Lawyer Barbie, Beauty Queen Barbie, Mermaid Barbie, Mom Barbie; and for me, I have lived a Barbee Lyfe. Constantly transforming and taking on various roles. In a sense Barbee Lyfe implies you can be whatever you want to be and you don’t even have to choose one position, you can do it all.

So that’s me! The somewhat hood Tomboy who still knows how to be the most lady-like Diva you will ever meet.
